Economic indignity, lack of prospects, mistrust and especially fear and hatred towards asylum seekers have grown rapidly. People of different backgrounds fear that their environment is becoming unrecognizable and unwelcoming. Populist demagogues have risen to harness these fears and turn people against each other - especially against ethnic minorities. In the middle of all this turmoil are Oula (46) and Tapio (71). Although they disagree on almost everything, they have decided to continue their weekly discussions in the sauna. They continue because they respect each other, and because they understand that when the conversation ends, the violence begins. Director-writer Elina Hirvonen's award-winning documentary film "Boiling Point" was filmed in Finland during 2016. It presents the different sides of an angry and divided Finland, respecting and avoiding stereotypes. The film paints a stunning picture of contemporary Europe, but at the same time looks for common ground between groups of people separated from each other.
